This Wicked Fate: This is a sequel to a book about a magical Black girl, Briseis, who inherits the Colchis family estate, which is in the deep wilderness. It has a secret Poison Garden, and a hugely toxic plant-the Absyrtus heart, fed by Colchis blood and by slivers of moonlight, grown from pieces of Absyrtus’s torn body, and forever nurtured by the Colchis family, and kept underground, behind lock and key, in a poisonous garden kept under lock and key, beside a vaguely normal garden also kept under lock and key, all contained in huge, high walls. This Wicked Fate guides Briseis on a journey with her supposedly dead aunt Circe. Circe’s friend Persephone, also blessed with the powers of the Absyrtus Heart, just as Briseis’s friend Marie is. Their main goal is to resurrect Briseis’s mom, who was killed by Katrina Valek in a family feud.
